FLPA elects new president

The Family Law Practitioners’ Association of Queensland (FLPA) has elected Deborah Awyzio as president following Colin Forrest’s recent appointment as a Judge to the Family Court of Australia.

Newly elected president Deborah Awyzio is honoured to take on her new role with FLPA.

Ms Awyzio is currently a council member of the Queensland Law Society and an accredited family law specialist with more than 15 years experience.

Ms Awyzio is arepresentative on the Queensland Law Society council for the Attorney-General of Queenslandand has been vice president of FLPA since 2008.

“Issues surrounding changes to the Family Law Act will remain high on the FLPA agenda,” she said.

“The introduction of the 2006 amendments to the Family Law Act give greater emphasis on shared parental responsibility and the challenge for us as practitioners will be to prepare our clients’ cases in the light of the recent amendments and to utilize the available evidence to maximize the prospect of success for our clients.”

Ms Awyzio will be supported in her role by the newly elected vice president Trent Waller. Mr Waller has served on the FLPA board since 2004.
